Intourist Hotel Baku
Legendary hotel “Intourist”, who was one of the historical monuments of Baku, gained a new life.
Historical justice has triumphed. Near the place where was located the old hotel, built almost identical to the predecessor, the new Intourist Hotel Baku.
The opening took place on 5 may with participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
The other day the hotel was able to see and media representatives.
The story of a legend
Let’s start with the fact that “Intourist” – one of the first hotels in Baku. It was built on one of the Central avenues of Baku – Neftchilar Avenue in 1934. The author of the project was the Academician of architecture (1910), an Honored architect of the USSR (1930), academician of the USSR (1943), laureate of four Stalin prizes (1941, 1946, 1948, 1952 – posthumously) Alexey Shchusev.
The hotel became known as the “old “Intourist” after the opening of “Azerbaijan” in the early 1960s, initially because the latter is also called “Intourist”. Later a new “Intourist” was renamed as “Azerbaijan”, but the old “Intourist” remained old.
In 1979 the building of the Baku hotel”Intourist” as a historical monument was included in the list of protected sites of the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR.
5-storey hotel with 124 seats had a very rich appearance and interior. Hotel employees and owns, among Azeri and Russian, English, German, French, and Arabic, served foreign guests at the highest level.
The hotel window looked out on Baku Bay, were near perfectly complementing the hotel complex fruit garden, cinema, cafes, entertainment center. Later, when the Boulevard was built the Palace of hand games, “Intourist” has become even more attractive.
Inside of operated men’s and women’s salons, a newsagent, a shop selling Antiques, a dedicated office to order a taxi, tickets to the cinema and theatre.
“East hall” for 40 people, decorated ancient Azerbaijani miniatures and other national ornaments, was a favorite place of the guests. Here were held many feasts and banquets.
In the hotel’s restaurants offer European dishes.
And in the hall on the second floor meetings were held, round tables, press conferences, were shown feature films.
In 1988, the hotel was rebuilt after the landslide. Restorers, preserving the appearance and all of the specific architectural elements of the hotel, updated the building and improved living conditions.
November 25, 2000 in Baku there was a great earthquake, which damaged the building “Intourist”. And after the fire of June 14, 2005 the hotel had been turned into ashes.
In 2006 the decision was made to demolish the hotel.
However, after 9 years close to the place where there was an old hotel, on the street Mikail Useynov in the village Bayil, a new – Intourist Hotel Baku. Although Intourist Hotel Baku is a brand new building, it can rightly be called a hotel with almost 80 years of history.

“Today is a very significant day in the life of our city. Opens brand new beautiful hotel. I congratulate you on this event. The opening of the hotel “Intourist” – a truly historic event,” – said at the opening of the Intourist Hotel Baku, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The head of state noted that the hotel “Intourist” has always lived in the memory of the older generation: “Therefore I am very glad that the decision had been taken and restored historical justice.”
Ilham Aliyev stressed that for Intourist Hotel Baku has been chosen a great place – the hotel offers a very beautiful panorama.
“I want to say again that “Intourist” will live on and on,” he said, noting that the accommodation meets the highest standards.
And in fact, the hotel is located in the heart of Baku. As before, the hotel offers spectacular views of the waterfront of the Caspian sea and the Boulevard. Literally 10-20 minutes walk from the hotel are the main attractions of the capital of Azerbaijan – the State flag Square, “Icheri Sheher” (Old city), Maiden tower, Azerbaijan state Philharmonic hall named after Muslim Magomayev, etc.
A 5-storey Intourist Hotel Baku there are 150 standard and Suite rooms. All rooms feature a modern interior and comfort, equipped with high-speed Internet connection, ventilation system and etc. it offers a SPA, library, conference room. The restaurant, which features a terrace with beautiful views of the sea, you can enjoy the best dishes of world cuisine.
And on the day of Absheron Hotel Group has announced the appointment of Marco Rabbia for the post of General Director at Intourist Hotel Baku.
Rabbia M. was born in Turin, grew up in South-East Asia and Australia, then moved to Switzerland, where he graduated from Les Roches Hotel Management School in Bluche.
He worked in the hotel sector in different countries of the world: from Europe to Africa, the Middle East and CIS countries.
Before moving to Azerbaijan in 2013 M. Rabbia was General Manager in Kazakhstan and engaged in the opening of the fourth hotel in his career.
Since joining in Absheron Hotel Group Marco Rabbia participated in the opening of the Shahdag (Gusar region of Azerbaijan) hotel Pik Palace and Park Chalet Hotels on position of the Manager.
